Warragul Uncle Bob's Club members will be shaking tins and collecting money for the Royal Children's Hospital Appeal on Good Friday at the Victoria and Albert Sts intersection in Warragul.
The Warragul branch of the Uncle Bob's Club has a proud history of raising funds for the appeal as well as many other causes related to the wellbeing of children in the district.
The Uncle Bob's Club was founded in 1941 at the Riversdale Hotel in Hawthorn when a raffle book was first passed around to raise money for the children's hospital orthopaedic ward. Four men at the bar were so moved they decided to form a group to raise money all year round. Their membership fee was a shilling (a "bob") per week and in January 1942, the Uncle Bob's Club began.
Since then the club has expanded and formed chapters across regional Victoria - including Warragul, and the volunteers on the street have been a feature in the town every year.
Collectors will be at the traffic lights on Victoria and Albert streets from 10am on Friday.
