Clean up your property and take advantage of free green waste disposal at local tips starting this weekend.
Trafalgar, Erica, Lardner and Neerim South transfer stations will offer free disposal days over the next month.
"Our free green waste drop off days aim to make it easier for all residents to prepare their properties now, to treat potential hazards and reduce fire risk to themselves and the wider community," Baw Baw Shire mayor Annemarie McCabe said.
Drawing attention to the bushfires already seen in Baw Baw this spring, Cr McCabe said "they are a timely reminder that it is that it is never too early to prepare your property for fire season".
Trafalgar Transfer Station will offer the free green waste disposal on Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 10am to 4pm.
Free disposal will be offered at Erica Transfer Station between noon and 4pm on Sunday, December 3 and Monday, December 4.
Lardner Transfer Station dates are Sunday, December 3; Friday, December 8; Saturday, December 9 and Sunday, December 10, all from 10am to 4pm.
The offer will extend to Neerim South Transfer Station on Sunday, December 3 and Friday, December 8 from 10am to 4pm.
Residents can dispose of up to three cubic metres of acceptable green waste for free. This includes tree debris, branches, foliage and general green waste. No large stumps will be accepted.
"Early in the summer season things can look green, but as the temperatures rise, fuel around your property can quickly dry and pose a fire risk," Cr McCabe said.
The offer is open to all Baw Baw Shire residents, whether they are a property owner or tenant. Proof of residency is required.
To cater for different trailer sizes, residents can either drop off three cubic metres at once or in smaller loads over multiple drop offs.
Residential vehicles and trailers must be used. Commercial vehicles will be charged at the the standard rate.
