Snapshot of the past - Cornwell and Wright
1 min read

A photograph of Currie's bullock team removing a building in Main Street, Drouin in 1907.
The building previously belonged to the firm of Cornwell and Wright.
The photograph was taken sometime between March - when an advertisement appeared for the removal of the building - and June. That date corresponds with when the contractor of the new building applied to the Buln Buln Shire for permission to erect a fence around the new building works.
Edmund Cornwell and Joseph Wright - the brother of Isabella, wife of Edmund Cornwell - bought the business from Frederick Lauer, who had ran the "Beehive Cash Store" for nearly 20 years.
The partnership ceased in 1907 and Cornwell went into a partnership with T.R Noall, who then took over the business in 1911.
The building was on the site of what is now the French Pear.
Other businesses seen in the photograph are the Commercial Bank, W.D Russell coach builder, Skewes and Hunter, T.R McLean newsagent and The Family Hotel run by E.J Hayes.
Also note the condition of the main street.
