West Gippsland Chorale members have been working hard throughout the Winter months to present a triumphant Spring concert series at the Wesley of Warragul.
Choristers have very much appreciated the chance to sing and learn together, in a supportive and welcoming environment led by Musical director Nathan Byrne and accompanied by Chris Sim at the piano.
Mr Byrne is an experienced choral, classroom, and instrumental music teacher and is currently the Head of Performing Arts – Events at St Paul's Anglican Grammar School. He is also well known for his involvement in community musical theatre in director and vocal coach roles. Chris has performed locally and in Melbourne for many years, completing her formal music education at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music.
Audience members, perhaps more so this year than ever, are looking forward to the Spring concerts. The choir is excited to welcome regular audience members, and extend a special invitation to newcomers.
The main work is the Mozart Requiem, which was incomplete at the time of Mozart's death, in December 1791. Stories abound about the 'mystery' of the work, and who commissioned it in the first place, and there is also a prevailing idea that Mozart became obsessed with the work and this obsession ultimately contributed to his exhaustion and demise. The truth and accuracy of these stories are unknown.
Other works include the beautiful Erev Shel Shoshanim (music by Josef Hadar, Lyrics by Moshe Dor in an arrangement by Jack Klebanow) and the very moving Bogoroditse Devo by Rachmaninoff.
As usual, the Chorale likes to support younger performers in our community. 'Wesley of Warragul' provides an outstanding venue for the choir and the young performers alike to share music with our community.
Concert dates and times are: Friday September 16 at 8pm and Sunday September 18 at 2pm.
Tickets are $30 full price, $25 for concession and free for school-aged children.
