A group of international visitors from Nepal were among strong crowds taking a trip on the Walhalla Goldfields Railway after its return to service in the past three weeks.
Business has been brisk for the Walhalla Goldfields Railway since it returned to service three weekends ago.
President Greg Hansford said there were about 500 passengers on the train on each of the previous two weekends and there were strong advance bookings for this week's Melbourne Cup long weekend.
Visitors from overseas including some from England, France, Iraq, Nepal and China were among the travellers on the historic train.
Mr Hansford said businesses in the town had also reported good trade since the train's return after temporarily being closed for three and a half weeks for some safety upgrades.
The train operates on three days each week - Wednesdays at 10am and noon and at weekends at 10am, noon and 1.30pm.
There is also plenty of work on the track with the railway.
Final restoration work is about to begin on the DH class locomotive.
The original bogies have been rebuilt and will soon be reattached to the engine/cabin section before it makes its way to Thomson station for bodywork and repainting.
