Seniors park tour planned

Residents in the over 60s age group are encouraged to grab a group of friends and join in a free, guided garden tour of Warragul's Civic Park, as part of local Victorian Senior's Festival celebrations.
The garden tour will be held next Tuesday, October 17, beginning with a morning tea and mingling outside the foyer at West Gippsland Arts Centre at 10:30am followed by a guided tour of Warragul's Civic Park at 11am.
Council's open space maintenance officer John Malins will lead the tour, sharing his insights and expansive knowledge of the park, including what goes into plant selection, information about the various species of trees, shrubs and flowers, as well as providing a behind the scenes peek into the park's maintenance requirements.
The guided tour also will look at the history of the park and its many features, including two spring-fed ponds, community gathering spaces and facilities.
The tour will conclude at the main pond.
Mayor Annemarie McCabe said the Civic Park tour was just one of the fantastic events and activities happening this month to engage with senior community members.
"It's the perfect opportunity to catch up with some friends in the beautiful park, learn some fascinating facts from our resident expert, or just come along and socialise and meet some likeminded people," she said.
Attendees are advised that Civic Park has uneven ground surfaces with differing terrain. The tour will include walking and standing at different sections of park. Staff will be on hand to address any concerns ahead of the tour.
