Minor works will soon begin at the site of the future Baw Baw Culture and Connection Precinct in Warragul.
The electrical works, taking place over coming months, will include establishing a sub-station site, installation of an electrical kiosk and relocating powerlines underground.
The $35 million precinct, featuring a library and learning centre, is set to be built on the corner of Albert St and Civic Place.
Baw Baw Shire mayor Danny Goss said the crucial electrical upgrades were another big step forward for a fantastic community facility.
"We're continuously working behind the scenes to bring this community precinct to life," Cr Goss said. "These early electrical works will be the first visible works on the ground which is exciting progress for both us and the community."
Three small trees will be removed to accommodate the electrical sub-station. Council said each was deemed as non-native and non-significant by an independent environmental assessment and six more suitable trees would be planted.
Whilst a construction timeframe for the three-storey facility was yet to be finalised, council's procurement process was now at a shortlist stage. Further evaluations are expected in the coming months.
Cr Goss said every effort would be made to minimise impacts to power supply for neighbouring residents and business as well as road access to Civic Place during the upcoming site preparation works.
"We want to ensure the community that council and all contractors involved during these site preparation works are focused on delivering positive results for the community," he said. "We thank the community for their understanding and patience over the next few months as things slowly begin to take shape."
Council has committed $10 towards the library and learning centre project and is exploring avenues to secure the final $6 million required to achieve the total budget cost, with the balance largely funded by various state and federal government grants.
The centre is set to include: a new community library with a children's library, maker's space, video gaming, reading, collection and study areas; creative and cultural space; community meetings rooms; consulting rooms; co-working spaces; public terrace area; public amenities with a parent's room; and, plaza and pedestrian access to the adjacent West Gippsland Arts Centre.
