Essential maintenance and other preparations are underway at Neerim District Rural Primary School ahead of the 2025 reopening.
The Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) has appointed a builder to undertake the required works to ensure school buildings and grounds are safe for the term one reopening.
Works on the buildings include: painting; installing new fire extinguishers and blankets, emergency and exit lighting, and updated evacuation diagrams; upgrading ramps to comply with accessibility requirements; general repairs to buildings and roofs and installing new flooring.
Site works include: concreting; asphalting and installing new playground equipment.
Scheduled to begin this month, the works are expected to be completed in January.
Installation of internet and phone service infrastructure is also underway.
Thirteen students are currently enrolled at Neerim District Rural Primary School for 2025. The VSBA encouraged parents and carers of prospective students to complete enrolments as soon as possible to ensure the school receives the appropriate operating budget.
The VSBA said a principal is likely to be appointed in mid-December and other key steps to make the school operational again, such as appointing staff are in progress.
