A $1.5 million funding bid to kick start works on a new community open space in Yarragon has been successful.
Baw Baw Shire will receive $2.2 million towards the cost of two projects in Yarragon and Warragul.
Funding from the state government's Growing Suburbs Fund was announced last week after submissions were lodged by council in June.
At Yarragon $1.52 million will be provided towards development of a community open space reserve in Rollo St that council also has committed $1 million to the project on the site of the former Yarragon primary school.
It will involve landscaping, drainage, public toilets, a shelter and park facilities.
The final stage of the Queen St, Warragul, streetscape project will receive $674,000.
The $1.7 million Queen St works aim to create a more pedestrian friendly precinct and help traffic move into, around and out of the central business district.
The Queen St works will improve the path layout in Queen St Park and will complement improved paving, promenade pedestrian pathways and relocation of the existing toilet block.
Funding for the project will be matched with a $497,000 council contribution and $593,000 from the Developer Contributions Plan.
Shire officers were unable to indicate last week when works would start on the two projects but at its June meeting council was told a condition of grants was that construction must happen within 18 months.
Council also had listed a number of other works in the shire that it believed met the criteria for grants but were not included in the last week's funding announced.
They included implementation of Longwarry's urban design framework, Drouin West kindergarten, upgrades to dog parks and construction of multi-use rooms at Warragul Leisure Centre.
Baw Baw Shire last week stated it was unable to provide information at this stage about when work might start on the two projects that have received government funding.
It stated it was still waiting for confirmation of the grants and to sign the agreement but would be able to provide more concrete information once the agreements was finalised.
