Dangerous tree chopped

A Nilma North resident has had a win with Baw Baw Shire cutting down a tree that he claimed was a serious danger to motorists.
Ben Bey, who has lived in the area for 20 years, said the tree that lent over Shorthouses Rd was scaring many people that drove on the road daily.
He said it had been a concern for a considerable time but had leaned further across the road as it got bigger and heavier.
After Mr Bey's most recent complaint last month council arranged an inspection the following day and decided it should go.
The tree was removed on March 28.
An earlier inspection about 18 months ago determined there had been no reason for its removal.
Mr Bey said he "loves trees" but believed it was only a matter of time before it crashed onto the road with possible serious consequences for road users.
He said the fact it was in an area with little top soil and next to a creek and culvert added considerably to the risk and stated many trees in the Nilma North and Shady Creek area had fallen during the past couple of years.
