A $55,000 grant will aim to create job opportunities in future farming in Cardinia Shire.
Focused on young people the "Futureproofing farming in Cardinia" project is being funded through VicHealth.
To be run over three years the aims are to increase employment and education pathways for young people in agriculture, create a resilient and sustainable local food system, grow a skilled workforce and showcase opportunities in technology, business and employment emerging in the agricultural sector.
Several schools in the shire and industry representatives will be involved in developing the project.
Mayor Tammy Radford said future proofing farming in the shire aligned with council's community food strategy that identifies the need to grow a vibrant local food economy.
She said council was excited about hearing ideas from young people and helping create more job pathways.
