Works to install a new raised pedestrian crossing and one-way traffic movements will begin in the Williams Square carpark in Warragul next week.
The upgraded crossing will alleviate current confusion of who must give way, with pedestrians given priority when crossing Williams St between the carpark and Centrepoint Arcade. Signage currently states "pedestrians must give way to vehicles."
The one-way traffic movement will only impact vehicles within the carpark, not access to Williams St from Mason St. This will include vehicles exiting Coffee Lane.
The changes are anticipated to boost safety by providing clarity for both pedestrians and motorists with clearly defined priority movements.
The works - funded by a $104,562 grant from the state government's "Safe System Pedestrian Infrastructure Program" - are expected to take five to seven working days.
A letter drop notifying nearby businesses stated works would be undertaken outside normal business hours to minimise disruption and inconvenience.
