An alert has been issued for Poowong, Loch and Nyora residents to boil tap water.
South Gippsland Water advised customers in these three towns to boil all drinking water or use bottled water until further notice.
The alert was issued on Thursday afternoon following reports of contaminated water in the Poowong-Loch-Nyora water supply system.
It warned consumption of unboiled water could cause gastro-like symptoms.
Water trailers are currently available at Nyora Recreational Reserve, Poowong Recreational Reserve, Main St in Loch and Speight St in Loch.The next update is not expected until Thursday afternoon.
Residents are advised to: boil water before drinking it or drink bottled water; boil water for food preparation, cleaning fruit and vegetables, making ice and for preparing baby formula; and boil water for brushing teeth.
It is safe to use unboiled water for: washing hands; cleaning dishes using hot soapy water; washing clothes; showering and bathing (young children should be given sponge baths to avoid accidentally swallowing water); garden watering and flushing toilets.
Any residents who experience gastro-like symptoms are urged to contact their GP.
