Trafalgar's St Joseph's Primary School has teamed up with West Gippsland Healthcare Group to kick start its commitment to the Vic Kids Eat Well Initiative.
The partnership has been a huge success in raising awareness about the importance of eating healthy and wholesome food and drinks at school, which we know helps kids learn better. Students are learning that it is about looking their bodies and caring for the environment by reducing plastic waste.
The initiative began with a "healthy eating logo" competition, followed by a "rubbish warrior" competition in which each class committed to reducing wrapping in their lunch boxes and having healthier food options. The class with the least amount of rubbish at the end of the week was rewarded with a smoothie made using the smoothie bike.
Angela Greenall and Bec Creed from WGHG met with all classes to educate children about healthy food and drinks.
The initiative has sparked lots of interest with students and families as they endeavour to continue the work to ensure healthy food becomes the norm at school.
