Winter play reading season to begin

Off the Leash Theatre will kick off its 2024 winter play reading season at the Drouin Community Hub on Thursday, June 19.
Following a successful play reading season last year at the French Pear Café in Drouin, Off the Leash are excited to bring the play readings to the Drouin Hub.
Every third Thursday until August 22, audiences will be treated to hear a rehearsed reading of select Australian plays.
The play that will be read this Thursday night will remain a secret until the performance starts.
Keira Jarred from Off the Leash said the secrecy helps the audience to come in with fresh eyes.
"We like people to come in without preconceived ideas," she said. "It's a great chance to engage with the community about the types of theatre they would like us to stage in the future, and we love gauging reactions to the show from those who might not have chosen to see it."
Keira said all the plays read during the season were written by Australian playwrights and would feature a wide variety of local talents as readers and directors.
The performance this Thursday will be feature Keira as well as Taylah Bordonaro, Tania Kee, Miranda Stewart and Stacey Miller.
Tickets to the readings are $15 each and include finger food by French Pear Café.
Doors at the Drouin Hub will open at 6pm for finger food, with the performance commencing at 7pm.
Other readings will be held at the Drouin Hub on July 11, August 1 and August 22.
