Gallery alive with colour

A Jindivick art gallery is alive with colour after the installation of Peter Saunders' exhibition of paintings.
The Warragul resident, a former family law specialist, was diagnosed with dementia in 2019 and art is now his main form of communication.
Peter's exhibition at Red Tree Gallery is colourful and uplifting, with all pieces surprisingly life affirming.
Although none of the works are for sale, gallery owner Laurie Collins said "to be in a room with the work is very positive".
Being non-verbal and having extremely limited mobility, Peter's art therapy keeps his mind and body active. It also allows him to communicate with family. Some of his children have even joining him painting, using it as a new way to bond.
According to his wife Lynne, it helped him to "become brighter within himself".
Working closely with local art therapist, care support worker and yoga teacher Linden Moore, the duo tried collage and sculpting, before eventually finding Peter's secret painting talent.
Peter works at his own pace with his favourite music on, usually taking around four weeks to finish a piece.
Sometimes, however, he gets in the zone and goes hours without stopping.
Having shown off four paintings at the Rotary Art Sale in Warragul during April, this Jindivick exhibition is a chance to display the fruits of Peter's labour with the wider community.
Red Tree Gallery is located at 420 Main Jindivick Rd and is open daily from 10am to 4pm.
