A $4.9 million upgrade to a key arterial road in Warragul has begun.

Community patience has been urged as the works on Copelands Rd - between Mills Rd and Lillico Rd - began last week, with a completion date set for June next year.
Baw Baw Shire chief executive officer Mark Dupe said it was great to see the highly anticipated project underway to "ensure the road has capacity to service our growing community for decades to come."
The $4.9 million works include road surface improvements, underground stormwater drainage upgrades at the Moe River crossing, new footpaths and a shared bicycle path.
The project aims to improve traffic flow, capacity and safety for both vehicles and pedestrians in the growing north-east area of Warragul.
"Copelands Rd is a key arterial for local traffic coming to and from the highway, town centre, schools and local business Flavorite, who is supportive of the project," Mr Dupe said.
"Not only will it improve traffic and pedestrian flow and safety, it will also ensure vital drainage infrastructure to support the growth of nearby housing developments."
During construction hours, Copelands Rd will operate with one-way traffic. Outside of these times, two-way traffic will be reinstated.
"We will keep local residents and businesses informed as the project progresses and appreciate the community's patience, understanding and cooperation during these essential works," Mr Dupe said.
The project is jointly funded by Baw Baw Shire and Development Contribution Plan (DCP) as part of the overall Warragul Precinct Structure Plan (PSP).
Local business Ace Earthmoving was awarded the contract for works.
