Warragul officially join WDJFL
1 min read

The Warragul Football and Netball Club have officially joined the Warragul and District Junior Football League after a special resolution meeting held last Wednesday night.

The club was voted in unanimously by the 10 clubs, making an 11 club competition.

It comes after four clubs departed the competition during the off season.

Warragul will have under 10s, 12s and 14s.

Warragul president Michael Ireland said it was a move that wasn’t originally planned, but one that would be fruitful.

“It’s really a club making moment and monumental for the long-term security for the football and netball club.

“It was a big move, one that wasn’t planned, but one we had to strike and had to take it on,” he said.

With football and netball returning in under two weeks, Mr Ireland said some local businesses had supported the club as they embark on a new junior season.

“A couple of businesses have gotten behind us and all the kids will play for free, they are wanting to invest in the club and their future, and we are really thankful for that.

“I’m just thrilled it’s back and if any boys or girls want to come down for a kick, get in touch with us,” he said.

WDJFL president Paul Osborne was pleased to welcome the new club.

“It’s important to have a team from Warragul in the WDJFL. After a fair bit of hard work and red tape, we’re happy to have done it in quick time and professionally alongside Warragul president Michael Ireland,” he said.

Round one will be rivalry round, beginning on April 24, however Buln Buln and Neerim South will play a season opener on April 17.

Friday night football is set to be a fixture for the WDJFL, with all but three rounds containing a Friday night match which Mr Osborne said players and parents were looking forward to.
