Titans touch up Lyrebirds in div four

by Samuel Laffy
Garfield-Tynong (6/210) def. Buln Buln (8/110)
Scintillating knocks from Garfield-Tynong's middle order provided the impetus for their victory over Buln, with the Lyrebirds change bowlers unable to stymie the flow of runs.
It looked for a time as though the likes of Musa Faisal Wahid (a tidy spell of 0/17 off 7) and Max Kittelty (1/37 from 8) might make scoring difficult for the Titans.
But once Darren Van Den Berghe (44), Jack Salan (58*), and Aaron Braaksma (a run-a-ball 51) found their rhythm, there was little stopping Garfield-Tynong posting an intimidating total – reaching 6/210 from their 40 overs.
In reply, Brayden Fowler (a 53-ball 41) and Wahid (26*) did their best to provide resistance, but the middle and lower order were unable to follow suit.
Van den Berghe (2/18 off 8) and Ryan Smith (2/17 from 6) were the pick of the bowlers, helping to restrict the Lyrebirds to 8/110; the Titans victors by 100 runs.

Western Park (4/92) def. Hallora (91)
For many their first game of senior cricket can be daunting, yet Western Park's Edward Dieu marked his debut with an exceptional performance that helped the Warriors take home a six-wicket win.
Having watched Dave Nobels (2/11) and Josh Kelly (1/10) test the defensive skills of the Kangaroos' top order with the new-ball, Dieu (3/19) combined with Kynan Plant (3/12) to scythe through the lower order, with Hallora bundled out for 91.
There were brief wobbles early in the Western Park chase, with Raman Gautam trapped lbw for just 11 and Marc Fleming out for four but, thankfully for the Warriors, Daniel Hilton's experience came to the fore.
Following up round one's half-century with a patient 37, the veteran carried take Western Park to victory in the 27th over – Dieu capping off a memorable day by hitting the winning runs on his way to 23*.

Iona (5/146) def. Jindivick (145)
A boundary-laden blitzkrieg from Craig Lenders helped Iona to a five-wicket win over Jindivick, capping off a rollicking run chase for the Swamp Tigers.
Coming to the crease following the early losses of Ed Walker (11) and Dion Pavlic (trapped in front by Matt Cheshire), Lenders wasted little time in making his mark on the contest, belting a series of scorching fours and sixes.
Cecil Haysom was a capable ally – striking seven boundaries of his own on his way to 45 – and their efforts ensured Iona made short work of their chase.
Earlier in the day, Cameron Coster (31), Andrew Pyle (20), and Nate Lucas (29*) all made promising starts and helped Jindivick to overcome impressive displays from Haysom (4/30) and Brown (3/19) to post 145; a total that looked to potentially be challenging until Lenders began his assault.
