Titans march on in div four

by Samuel Laffy
Garfield-Tynong (4/218) def. Western Park (132)

Garfield-Tynong continued their run of form against Western Park in their division four encounter, with the Titans taking home an 86-run win that saw them move atop the table at the Warriors' expense.
The 110-run opening stand between Ryan Smith (an aggressive 68) and Jack Salan (a more watchful 68*) saw Garfield-Tynong in an imperious position early in the piece, and the likes of Steve Lewis (34) and Aaron Braaksma (a 16-ball 22) were able to accelerate late and enable the Titans to post 4/218 from their 40 overs.
In the face of a challenging chase the Western Park top order looked all at sea against Beau Zinnow (2/13) and Ryan Smith (who claimed the parsimonious figures of 0/4 from his seven overs) and the build-up of pressure took its toll.
Marc Fleming did his level best to drag his side back into the mix – making a stunning 47 – but James Francis (2/20) and Billy Anile (3/12) proved too good for the rest of the line-up, Western Park dismissed for 132 in the 40th over.
Buln Buln (7/277) def. Hallora (164)
Due to the fixturing quirks – and the nature of a six-team competition – Buln played Hallora at Athlone for the second time in three weeks, and once again found themselves posting a gargantuan score as the Lyrebirds notched a 113-run win.
In round five, Buln's 6/271 was built on the back of Riley Eastwell's 144, but it was his teammates who took full advantage of the small confines on Saturday, with Artie Davidson and Charles Kilmartin the main beneficiaries.
Davidson's 49-ball 58 set the tone for the innings as Kilmartin (86 from just 67 balls) and Dane Hammond (49* off 39) continued the assault, allowing the Lyrebirds to post 7/277.
Hasitha Wijesinghe snared 2/33 and was the best of the bowlers, but the rest of the Kangaroos attack would be glad to see the back of Buln as they were repeatedly belted around.
In reply, Hallora were never in the hunt as their batting line-up were unable to replicate the boundary-hitting of their opponents, making 164 before being dismissed.
Jindivick def. Iona by forfeit.
