Singles champions decided for Drouin
1 min read

Semi-finals led into the finals of the Drouin Bowling Club's singles championships on Sunday.
An excellent crowd was present to witness high class bowling on a superb green.
Mary Firth was a comfortable semi-final winner over Elaine Thorpe.
In the second semi-final, a titanic struggle between Sheryl Atkinson and daughter Sammy Atkinson ended in a 25/21 score in favour of Sheryl. The final result was not decided until the 28th end.
The final between Sheryl and Mary was another marathon event.
Sheryl gained a six-shot lead on the 13th end. Not to be outdone, Mary fought back and scored a maximum four shots on the 29th end. Sheryl held her nerve and picked up three shots on the 30th end to win by seven shots.
Congratulations to both for playing a very high standard game which could have gone either way.
The men's singles final was the only match, with the semi-finals played at an earlier date.
Les Firth and Mark Atkinson played off in what was another classic tight struggle. On the 14th end, Les held a comfortable eight-shot lead.
Mark steadied and was just two shots down on the 21st end. The next two ends saw Les take control with seven shots to be a worthy winner.
Credit to both players for such a high standard in windy conditions.
