Rhodes smashes double-century in division four

by Samuel Laffy
Buln Buln (5/327) def. Western Park (6/187)
One of the most staggering knocks in WDCA history propelled Buln Buln to a 160-run win over Western Park, as Wayne Rhodes' fearsome blitzkrieg saw him a notch an astonishing double-century.

Having watched on as Dave Nobels delivered a parsimonious opening spell (the seamer taking 2/5 off 5), Rhodes strode to the crease with the Lyrebirds in a spot of bother at 3/30.
This wasn't the case for long though, as Rhodes – playing his first game in a number of years – quickly settled and took full advantage of the lightning outfield.
Aided by some less-than-ideal bowling, Rhodes blasted boundary after boundary, 26 fours punctuated by 10 sixes, with no-one able to curb his scoring as he crunched his way to 206* and the overall score to 5/347.
The worst culprit was Michael Gnaden, who went for 0/78 from his five overs, although few of his teammates were able to prevent the flow of runs.
In reply, Oliver Hilton's 24 and Thomas Lilford's 58* were among the highlights, although the Warriors never had a realistic chance of claiming victory – finishing 6/187 from their 40 overs.
Iona (6/212) def. Hallora (6/209)
In one of the rare successful run chases this past weekend, Iona claimed a scintillating four-wicket win over Hallora, with Fletcher Pallot's early onslaught a key factor in the win.
Chasing an intimidating target of 6/209, Iona knew that a rapid start was needed to take the pressure off their line-up in the latter stages of the pursuit, and Pallot duly delivered.
Blasting 11 boundaries – including five mammoth sixes – Pallot's 32-ball 58 well and truly put the Kangaroos' bowlers on the backfoot.
Jason Siegel (46*) and Dion Pavlic (29*) were able to continue the flow of runs, and after just 35 overs the Swamp Tigers were able to reach their target.
Earlier in the day, Hallora's innings was made possible thanks to knocks of 60 from Chris Youngman and 39 to Hasitha Wijesinghe.
Jindivick (1/45) def. Garfield-Tynong (41)
Scores unavailable at the time of writing.
