Mid Gippsland makes call on football and netball

The Mid Gippsland Football Netball league have moved swiftly on a decision that will see footy and netball remain off the field this weekend.

A new plan and fixture has been put in place and distributed to clubs, with the season now consisting of 13 rounds with the hope of recommencing on June 19, meaning all clubs will have the opportunity to face each other at least once.

The league will play out rounds 11, 12 and 13 as normal, before then returning to play the postponed rounds of eight nine and 10.

July 31 will be a bye for all clubs before finals commence on August 7, a week earlier than originally scheduled with the grand final to be played on August 28.

Publicity officer Rob Popplestone said the new fixturing leaves the league with some options.

“It leaves us some wiggle room if we do have lockdown problems again,” he said.

As it stands, Hill End remain undefeated on top of the ladder, followed by Foster, Mirboo North, Fish Creek, Morwell East and Yinnar who round out the top six.

In the EDFL a board meeting will take place tonight to discuss their options, with the Gippsland league also set to discuss a return to play with clubs also.

The West Gippsland league are yet to make a call, but are also looking at all options in terms of a return to play.
