For years Drouin's Ryan Maric never thought he would make it to the AFL. Now he's just one day away from finding himself on an AFL club's list
A Drouin Hawk for the entirety of his career thus far, Ryan is a red-hot favourite to be one of the first players selected in tomorrow night's mid-season rookie draft, having put in an incredible amount of work to get there.
Over the past 18 months he's dropped more than 20kg in an effort to improve his fitness and work rate.
The effort paid off on the field, with some barnstorming performances for Gippsland Power and Vic Country earlier this year suddenly rocketing Ryan into mid-season draft calculations.
After reaching 107kg on the scales, Ryan, 18, said he knew he had to change something.
