Warragul were left to rue what could have been over the weekend after an inaccurate goalkicking performance left them adrift of Traralgon.
At various stages the Gulls not only matched the much-fancied Maroons and beat them around the ball, but were unable to finish their work in front of goal.
Despite having 19 scoring shots, they kicked just two goals in the 2.17 (29) to 10.17 (77) defeat.
Further compounding their loss was a serious leg injury to senior coach Jed Lamb.
