Hawks succumb in grand final

Drouin's C grade netball team has gone down in heartbreaking fashion with a one-goal defeat to Maffra in Saturday's grand final at Morwell.

Another minute and the story could be different for the Hawks, who fought valiantly before succumbing 36-37.
Drouin came to play and came to win. Both sides had an awesome home and away season - and were ready to finally settle the score on the big day.
In goals, Tess Mapleson and Kaylee Nalder were accurate and resilient, fighting hard for possession and making the most of the ball.
Feeding the ball in were Jodie Proctor, Emily Bethune and Alice McKellar, all passing it in fast and accurately.
Some of the best passes of the game were from Jodie Proctor who showed how experience creates calmness and precision.
Elsewhere in the mid court, Kate Butler answered the call for relentless pressure, along with Seraya Murray who had arms over everything and fought hard to create pressure.
In defence, Grace Henderson, Kelly McMillan and the league best and fairest Jess Murray were on fire. The Hawks had hands to everything, rebounding and making it difficult for the Maffra goalers.
It was difficult to make a position under the post, but all three defenders showed their resilience and determination to upset the goalers as best they could.
There was amazing support on the sidelines from Abbey Tyrrell, Georgia Henderson and Ali MacArthur, making plays and assisting with coaching.
Drouin were down by six early in the game, before coming back to be down by just two.
Their hard work seemed to be all for naught when the margin pushed back out to six soon after.
However, in the final quarter the scores became level and it was then goal for goal, the final result almost impossible to predict.
The crowd was going wild and the momentum swung towards the Hawks.
The umpires were calling what they saw and Drouin had several advantages played.
Unfortunately for the maroon and gold the siren was against the Hawks and the whistle blew with them down by one.
