Warragul v Iona
A brilliant, high-level game of cricket has seen Warragul sneak over the line against Iona on the weekend.
Bowling first, Warragul found the going tough at times early, as the likes of Jesse Depasquale (53) and Andrew Hilder (22) took the long handle against the hard ball.
For the Gulls, they needed only one man to stop the Swamp Tigers in their tracks - the evergreen Andrew Wilkes, as his metronomic style wielded him 6-13 through the middle of the innings, blowing away some of Iona's less-experienced players.
Still, they made 169, and Warragul were needing to earn their win. They slipped to 6-39 early as Depasquale (4-24) and Jackson Clerks (2-27) seemed to bring Iona a romping victory, but it was the experience of Tristan Fraser (58*), Leigh Cook (33) and Andrew Wilkes (29*) that was able to turn the tide, and see Warragul home in the last over.
Neerim District v Yarragon
Yarragon has squeaked over the line in an entertaining contest against Neerim District on the weekend.
Bowling first, Yarragon were tight when it came to restricting Neerim's runs off the bat, however, 32 wides meant the Stags reached a competitive total of 6-122, as Harmanpreet Singh (2-19) was the pick of the visitors.
In reply, the Panthers were spun around by youngster Joe Sheehan and his largest senior haul of four wickets, however key knocks from Nabeel Ahmed (25) and Aman Gill (22) were enough to see Yarragon home by three wickets.
Catani v Western Park
Catani has continued their utter domination of Western Park, trouncing them in a grand final rematch.
Bowling first, the Cats kept the run-rate to a minimum, as the Warriors crawled to 4-86 before an almighty late order collapse of 6-15 saw them make an uncompetitive 101 off nearly all of their allotted overs, as the likes of Daniel Glover, Leigh Jose and George Zekic piled on the pressure with the ball.
In reply, Catani made light-work of the chase with a strong start from the top order seeing them home in quick time by eight wickets. For Western Park, the only shining light was a sensational spell by youngster Caleb McIntosh (3-9), however that was all to come out of another tough day for the Park.
Longwarry v Drouin
Longwarry and Drouin were unable to play due to poor ground conditions.
Udderly magnificent art
There was little left to the imagination of what a dairy community represented when St Angela of the Cross, Warragul students put their creative talents to work in Dairy Australia’s Picasso Cows program. And the results were udderly magnificent -...
