Gulls defy weather

by Samuel Laffy
Warragul (6/121) def. Catani (1/119)
The wet and wild weather put paid to many cricketers' hopes but Warragul and Catani defied the conditions to play a T20 match-up in their round 14 clash, with the Gulls taking out a four-wicket win over the Cats.
Whilst precipitation and moisture on the outfield no doubt made gripping the ball an issue for bowlers, the Catani top order must be commended on their approach, with Matt Coleman (35*) leading the charge.
With support from Matt Finger (26), Archie Purvis (26*), and Claire Finger (14*), Catani made it to 1/119 from their 20 overs – an encouraging effort.
However, the Gulls top order had a similar appetite for runs with Nabeel Ahmed (36*) leading the way.
It wasn't entirely smooth sailing as though as the aggressive intent saw wickets tumble, putting the pressure back on Warragul.
Enter Steven Fricke, who showed off his years of experience and quickly notched 16* to help Warragul to safety at 6/121 in the 18th over.
