Gulls and Hawks to tackle round two tests

Following a week off, Gippsland League action returns this weekend. Check out how this round is stacking up.
Warragul vs Moe
Saturday 2:20pm, Western Park
Fresh off a round one win, Warragul will be looking to make it two in a row against Moe.
The Gulls were tougher around the ball for longer against Drouin, and they'll certainly need some of that toughness against a Moe side that has recruited with a flag in mind.
Warragul will take plenty out of the fact that they snapped a four-game losing streak against the Lions when they last played. That day they managed a thrilling one-point win, despite having nine fewer scoring shots.
Making life a little more difficult for them, however, are some of their outs.
Lachlan Collihole, who booted three goals in round one, misses, as does Nick Mulqueen, Tom Hobbs, Nathaniel Sulzberger and young guns Liam Serong and Vinnie Caia.
Will Hatfield, Jordan Murphy, Scott Kelly Chris Raso and Leigh Sheehan all come in for their respective first games, but some of those names coming out will be difficult to replace.
Something to keep an eye on is how Warragul rotates their forward line set-up this week. New coach and reigning league leading goalkicker Jed Lamb spent most of his time in the middle last match, leading a host of different names to try and hit the scoreboard in his absence.
Moe, meanwhile, looked a seriously dangerous side in their round one win over Morwell thanks to some welcome height around the ground.
The return of 2021 league leading goalkicker Kristian Jaksch provided an instant boost, as did recruit Nick Prowse. Coach Declan Keilty, coming back from his injury last season, also gave the Lions plenty of grunt in their backline.
Last year's seventh-place finish was a considerable disappointment for Moe, who no doubt will be looking at this as a game they should win.
Time will tell if Warragul can change that.
Morwell vs Drouin
Saturday 2:20pm, Morwell Recreation Reserve
Close but not close enough was the story of Drouin's round one defeat to Warragul.
The Hawks, under new coach Brent Clinnick, displayed some ferocious football at times but were unable to string it together for long enough to get the result.
Their new recruits slotted in rather well, particularly young gun forward Hugo Birks and livewire Will Papley, and they'll be looking to build on the things that worked this week.
Speed with ball-in-hand generally worked effectively for the Hawks, but now its about working through when to go and when not to.
Callum Tyler and Noah Jarred come in for their first games, replacing Joe Collins and Charlie Bethune in what is otherwise a steady side.
In terms of recent history, although the Hawks lost both their matches against Morwell last season, those games ended a run of four straight Drouin wins.
On the other side of things, Morwell will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing first round outing against Moe.
The Tigers, who were last year's surprise packet as they made a stunning run to the finals, were jumped at the first siren by the Lions. They showed some signs of life in an attempted comeback, but never truly came close to threatening.
Trood Award and Rodda Medallist runner-up Tristen Waack comes out, but the club debut of Darnell Grech will leave Morwell fans excited.
Morwell began season 2022 in a rather slow fashion and will undoubtedly be keen to not let that re-occur.
A return to their home ground should see them come into the match as favourites, but if Drouin plays at their best then watch out.
Other matches:
Reigning premiers Leongatha take on fierce rivals Wonthaggi at Parrot Park.
Expect sparks to fly whenever these two meet, but especially with the Power out to stop Leongatha from winning their 30th straight match.
Maffra hosts Traralgon as both teams look to rebound from disappointing respective round ones.
A goal after the siren secured two points for Maffra against Bairnsdale in a match they seemed destined to lose, while Traralgon will want to get moving after becoming yet another victim of Leongatha.
Finally, Sale will look to avoid going 0-2 as they face Bairnsdale at home as Sunday's only match.
The Magpies will be boosted by the debut of boon recruit Hudson Holmes as they try to get their season on track. Meanwhile, the Redlegs will be out for atonement after being in a strong position against Maffra only to end up settling for a draw.
