The top sides flexed their muscles this week as the first week of another set of two-day matches had plenty to offer for local fans, while one Western Park batsman stamped his name as one to be reckoned with.
Division 1
Yarragon v Western Park
A Sanjaya Gangodawila masterclass has seen Western Park ease into another winning position against Yarragon.
Batting first on an incredibly lush Yarragon outfield, Gangodawila and Jack Armour (33) looked a class above early, as the best opening pairing in the league added 105 for the first wicket to put the Panthers in a tricky position early.
To the home side's credit they stuck fat, as Laytten Smith (3-57) bustled in all day, and through the middle overs took the key wickets of Greg Munro (1) and Patrick Ireland (1) to put the match back in the balance.
Unfortunately for Yarragon, Gangodawila was simply unstoppable, and despite only striking nine boundaries due to the outfield, he was still able to knock up a quickfire century shortly after lunch before finally being dismissed for 127 as Western Park reached 4-208.
Ellis Whiteford (27) continued the momentum and was the only other Warrior batsmen to hit the fence, with Damien Lawrence (21), Sam Batson (12), Kurtis Harper (12) and Jason Croft (11) all getting starts but getting out, as Kusan Ranasinghe (2-56) and Jake Green (2-63) toiled for their work.
With the score on 9-269 with four overs left in the day, Western Park made the bold, and perhaps dismissive, move of declaring, giving themselves a chance at an early Yarragon scalp.
Unfortunately for them, the decision backfired somewhat as the Panthers clung on to end the day 0-4 - but still significantly behind in the match position.
