Goannas over 70s claim win

The Gippsland Goannas over 70 cricket team travelled to Capital Reserve Glen Waverley on Tuesday 21 January to play against the Glen Waverley Hawks Veterans.
The weather was warm, and the two captains agreed to play the game in four quarters of 20 overs each.
Glen Waverley batted the first 20 overs and were 4/52 after their first 20 overs.
Gordon Cowling and Ian Southall bowled the first seven overs, economically but with no wickets.
Neil Meredith and Kelvin Bond took over, and Meredith induced a false shot for Murray Moore to take an excellent catch.
Bond then chimed in with two wickets in his third over to have the Hawks 3/26.
Moore and Barrie Nunn then bowled the five overs to the innings break, with Garry Rose taking a good catch off Moore's bowling in the 20th over.
After a quick change Rob Francis and Donald Cameron opened the batting for the Goannas.
Francis was LBW in the eighth over for a well made 20 from 25 balls.
Rose joined Cameron and took the score along until the latter retired (with heat exhaustion) for 23 from 29 balls, allowing Meredith to join Rose.
Rose (5 from 30), Meredith (37 with three big sixes from 27 balls) and Ian Gibson (6 from 9 balls) had taken the score to 1/94 at the end of 20 overs.
Lunch was then taken before Glen Waverley recommenced their innings.
They batted steadily, with two retirees as Southall and Nunn bowled the next seven overs.
Francis came into the attack with his off spin beating the bat. Gibson took a sharp catch behind from Moore's bowling, Southy finished up with 0/9 from eight overs, and Francis had a wicket with Gibbo taking another good catch.
Bond re-entered the attack and hit the stumps again to finish with 3/7 from his six overs. Cowling also came back and took a wicket.
Meredith (1/18 from four overs), (Francis 1/11 from five) and (Cowling 1/16 from six) were the other successful bowlers as the Hawks completed their innings at 8/107.
Phill Higgins with 11 retired from nine balls, Moore seven retired from four, Nunn three not out and 'fielder-of-the-day' Deidre Hunter one not out helped the Goannas to 1/118 when stumps were pulled.
The Goannas over 70s will play an earlier postponed game against Endeavour Hills/Bayside today at the Yinnar Cricket Ground.
