The Ellinbank Cricket Club took out the Kookaburra Cup recently with a dominant performance.
The Kookaburra Cup sees the two most successful Gippsland association teams in one-day matches from the prior season play off for the title.
Having won the division one premiership in the 2021/22 season, it meant that Ellinbank were due to play off against Phillip Island. However, due to scheduling conflicts, they instead found themselves facing the Ex Students Cricket Club from the Tararlgon and District Cricket Association.
Choosing to play a T20 match for the title, the Eagles batted first, making a respectable 8/152 for their innings. Nick Fairbank topped the scoring for the Eagles with 40.
From there, the Eagles tore into the Ex Students top order early, as Sean Masterson (2/15) took two early wickets to leave the batsmen rattled before Jack Pandolfo (2/7) and Jona Watts (2/9) continued the carnage.
In the end, Ex Students could manage just 64 runs before being bowled out, as Ellinbank claimed a monster 88-run victory.
