Disappointing day for the Gulls in the wet

Warragul netballers had a tough day at the Western Park courts, dealing with rain, cold conditions and strong Leongatha teams.
A grade: Warragul 43 lost to Leongatha 53
Warragul had a great start, winning the quarter 16-9.
However, Leongatha came out in the second quarter and didn't look back.
Warragul's defensive pressure kept them in the game.
Award: Ella Rees.
B grade: Warragul 25 lost to Leongatha 46
In wet and cold conditions as the day went on, both side had trouble controlling the ball.
Leongatha made the most of their scoring chances in the first half. The pressure from the Gulls defenders was outstanding all game.
Awards: Kate Emerson, Mackenzie Minichello and Ella Gaul.
C grade: Warragul 19 lost to Leongatha 38
It was a hard day for some netballers.
Gulls took time to warm into the game but showed some real fight once they did.
Best on court Bella Hefford provided strength in the goal circling, working seamlessly with the attackers.
Down the other end, fellow award winner Cara Gavin got hands to some crucial balls and controlled the defensive end.
In the end, the Gulls couldn't claw their way back into the game. However, despite playing in certainty the wettest game of netball in years, there was still plenty of positives to take away.
17 and under: Warragul 15 lost to Leongatha 51
Warragul faced a very good Leongatha side, who currently sit second, in the very wet conditions.
After half-time, the Gulls played some better netball but didn't convert on the score board.
Awards: Brooke Cahill, Alishia Smith and Ava Brock.
15 and under: Warragul 17 lost to Leongatha 41
The conditions didn't deter the Gulls who maintained their positive attitude and determination.
The team worked well together and were ably assisted by four under 13 players. Their contributions were valued and appreciated.
Awards went to Olivia Barr who was strong in defence, Audrey Simpson who worked well in goals and Isabelle Nash who was pivotal in the midcourt. Indi Olsson was also awarded for her great work in defence.
13 and under: Warragul 1 lost to Leongatha 51
It was a tough day against top of the ladder side Leongatha.
As the game progressed, the girls become somewhat disheartened and heads dropped. It been a hard year for them but, to their credit, they return each week and show resilience and improvement.
Alysa Sheehan was awarded best on. Her determination, fight for the ball and positive morale is admirable.
Despite two big falls to the ground, Billie Gray was also awarded. Her defensive pressure, team work and motivation to keep going was fantastic to see.
Pocket rocket midcourt player Evelyn Blackwood was the final award winner. This girl never gives up and her determination and respect for her teammates and her coach never goes unnoticed. The rain did not stop her speed or ability to get those loose balls.
