Cellar dwellers look the goods

by Samuel Laffy
Division 4
A strong century has the division four cellar dwellers in a dominant position this week as the other teams jostle for top spots with finals just around the corner.
Iona (9/324) vs. Drouin
Having toiled away in division four this season, Iona saved perhaps their best batting performance for almost last, compiling an intimidating first innings total against Drouin.
The small confines of Bellbird Park Oval two was the setting for the Swamp Tigers' assault, with Zac O'Hara making the most of conditions to strike an exceptional maiden century.
Having watched on as his top order teammates struggled to push the scoring, O'Hara strode to the wicket with the score at 4/104, and well and truly put the Hawks to the sword.
Finding able support from Craig Lenders (who struck 31), and Russell Ferguson (who compiled a patient 15 in the lower order), O'Hara punished anything slightly loose and in a swashbuckling knock of 120* lifted Iona to 9/324 at the conclusion of their innings.
Having never passed fifty in his senior career, O'Hara's memorable knock ensured that in the battle of the cellar dwellers that Iona emerged as the clear winners on day one of proceedings.
