Cats crush Lyrebirds

by Davyd Reid
Neerim-Neerim South maintained its undefeated record with an impressive victory over Buln Buln, 11-5 (81) to 0-5 (5).

While Lachlan Bambridge was out of the side due to a golfing trip, the Cats made up for it with handy inclusions in Aaron Hillberg and Chris Urie.
Despite Buln Buln's usual stingy defence holding up well, the Cats still found their opportunities to open an early buffer.
Cooper Clancy rolled one through from outside 50 and then Urie added another from range from a pass from Will Papley, bookending the first quarter goal from Kai Mounsey.
Buln Buln found their first mark inside 50 to begin the second term as the Lyrebirds looked to lift, but they failed to capitalise on opportunities.
An impressive spin out of trouble from Brendan Wall could only find the post as the Cats kicked further ahead with another three majors.
Only a run of four consecutive minors prevented the Cats from further kicking away in the third, Luke Kinder making the breakthrough from 40 metres on a slight angle.
An Ayden Ramm mark and conversion on the siren helped the Cats maintain a handy 57-point buffer at the final change.
Clancy, Papley, Kody Wilson, Mounsey, Tyssen Morrow and Tom Muir were helping the Cats control the contest.
Helping the Lyrebirds stem the tide were Lachlan Axford, Jack Nuttall, Thomas Axford, Will Battley, Brandon Allen and Hayden Baker.
Having been kept to just one goal to the final change, Mason McGarrity got off the chain with three final quarter goals to cap the strong victory.
