Bulldogs fight in defeat
2 min read

A more competitive effort couldn't save Bunyip on Saturday as they were swept aside by Koo wee rup away from home.
First quarters have haunted the Bulldogs in recent weeks as they've conceded 23 goals across their past two opening terms.
This time they conceded just two, meaning they trailed by a measly nine points at the first break.

Unfortunately for them, they couldn't turn that defensive momentum into reward up forward as the Demons kicked 12 of the last 14 goals to consign Bunyip to a 3.3 (21) to 14.17 (101) defeat.
It was a much more encouraging defensive effort from the visitors, albeit against a team that isn't contending for finals.
At times the Bulldogs enjoyed a rush of forward 50 entries, working their way through the Demons' defensive zone well, but just couldn't capitalise.
Given some of the scores the Bulldogs have conceded this season playing a game where they let through less than four goals a quarter on average is a nice change of pace.
Bunyip vice-captain Alex Dijkstra was named the Bulldogs' best for the fifth consecutive week as he once again tried to drag his team across the line through the middle.
Dijkstra, still an extremely young player mind you, has been a shining light for Bunyip over the past two seasons and is surely heading to a best and fairest win at the end of the season.
Outside of Dijkstra the Bulldogs had encouraging performances from Matthew O'Halloran, Tahj Murphy and Darby Craven.
Demon Nathan Muratore was the harbinger of Bunyip's loss with five goals in a best on ground performance.
Travis Bindley, Nathan Voss and Tyson Twite were all also solid for Koo wee rup.
Koo wee rup are a side that, like Bunyip, have had their struggles this year. Saturday was just their third win this season.
That just goes to show how the competition is stacked at the moment. It's certainly not the most even going around.
On a brighter note the club has confirmed former player Matthew Ross will return to the club for a few games at the backend of the year. Ross grew up locally and played two games in the AFL for Essendon.
The Bulldogs will take something out of their defensive efforts on Saturday, and boy will they need to with games against Phillip Island and Nar Nar Goon to come.
Get through those and their long-awaited dance with Isaac Smith and Shane Mumford awaits.
