Boom job for Vickerman

Former Warragul resident and current Melbourne United head coach Dean Vickerman will help to lead Australia's national basketball team after being appointed as the Boomers' associate head coach.

Vickerman put his name up for the top job following the departure of previous head coach Brian Goorjian, but ultimately lost out to West Australian Adam Caporn.
Vickerman will take over head coaching responsibilities whenever Caporn is unavailable.
Caporn, a current assistant coach with the NBA's Washington Wizards, has served as an assistant coach under both Goorjian and previous coach Andrej Lemanis in recent years.
Vickerman, who had the chance to take the reins of the national team for two games during the Boomers' World Cup qualifying campaign in 2023, is currently hunting his fourth NBL championship as Melbourne United battle the Illawarra Hawks in the grand final series.
United currently sit two-one up in the best of five series and will have a chance to claim the title tomorrow night in front of their home fans at John Cain Arena.
Vickerman currently sits seventh all time for NBL wins as coach.
A born and bred Warragul local, he has stayed in touch with his roots, visiting his old school St Paul's Anglican Grammar School on multiple occasions to impart his wisdom.
His family was also the original founders of Gladiators Basketball Club, who still compete locally in the Warragul District Amateur Basketball Association.
