Big win for Baw Baw veterans

It was an overcast day when Baw Baw Veterans Cricket team ventured to Koo Wee Rup Secondary College to take on Iona/KWR.
Mick O'Neill lost the toss (again) and the Iona/KWR skipper Graham Davies was quick to decide to bat.
The Baw Baw bowlers were on the spot right from the first over, particularly Tony Wyatt, who took wickets in each of his first two overs.
After 10 overs the home team were 2/11 and struggling with the very tight bowling.
Daryl 'Carrots' Williams bowled well but without luck early, before striking twice in his sixth over. Firstly, he had Patterson caught from a sharp chance by Pete Felstead at second slip for a duck and then clean bowled the dangerous Steve Nadj for two.
At this point Iona/KWR were 4/21 and in trouble.
The next portion of the Iona/KWR innings was 18 overs from Brett Carey, Russell Vincent and Mick O'Neill for only 40 runs.
Credit to the home side for not losing a wicket this time, but the bowling effort from these three guys was tremendous.
Brett Carey finished with eight overs for 15, Russell Vincent had five overs for 10 and Mick O'Neill finished with only 11 runs off his eight overs. Between them, these three bowlers bowled seven maiden overs.
Peter Felstead chipped in with five steady overs to take 1/15 and at the close of innings, after 40 overs, Iona/KWR had made an even 80 runs.
After the lunch break Baw Baw opened up with Tony Wyatt and Mark McLauchlan at the crease – and these two looked like they were keen to knock the runs off quickly.
The first four overs saw 28 runs scored as Wyatt straight drove with power and accuracy. He later retired not out with 31 off 30 balls including five fours.
At this point McLauchlan had only faced 13 balls with Tony doing a great job of continually taking a single off the last ball of each over.
Despite being in obvious pain with an injured knee, McLauchlan took up the attack after Wyatt retired. He finished with 33 off 26 balls retired, with four fours and a six over point, when Mick Scully served up a juicy short ball outside off-stump.
From this position Baw Baw coasted to victory in the 15th over with the score at 0/82 with Brett Carey 12 (2 fours) and Pete Felstead six, both batting confidently and professionally.
It was a very strong win for the Baw Baw Veterans, in a game played in tremendous spirit. Man of the match for Iona/Koo Wee Rup was G. Tatham who batted well at the end of their team's innings and, for Baw Baw, man of the match was Tony Wyatt with a brilliant all-round performance.
Next week Baw Baw travel down to Deepdene Park to play Canterbury.
