Bethune is league's best

Drouin netballer April Bethune has taken out the Gippsland League A grade best and fairest award.

The versatile player, who is a regular in the centre and defensive end, was a runaway winner of the Hutchison Medal after polling 28 votes.
April polled three votes in rounds two, five, nine, 11, 12 and 14 to lead from about the halfway point of the count. She was awarded two votes on three occasions and one vote in four games.
Moe player Olivia Barnett was runner-up with 22 votes and Traralgon player Milly Murphy was third on 21.
Warragul defender Renee Nobelius was fifth on 19 votes. Drouin goaler Stacie Gardiner was equal sixth with 16 votes and Warragul midcourter Alex Cole was ninth on 15 votes.
In B grade, Warragul goaler Naomi Allardyce was runner-up on 23 votes.
Winner Kate Sperling of Leongatha finished just one vote ahead on 24.
Warragul’s Mackenzie Minichiello finished equal sixth on 14 votes.
In C grade, Drouin’s Jessica Murray won best and fairest after polling a massive 32 votes. 
She finished well ahead of runner-up Annora Virgo of Bairnsdale on 19 votes.
Warragul player Brooke Cahill and Drouin player Charlize Traumanis finished equal either in the 17 and under count. They each polled 16 votes.
The equal best and fairest winners were Leongatha’s Lara Gill and Sale’s Mahli Stothers on 32 votes.
No locals finished in the top 10 for either the 15 and under count or 13 and under count.
In the 15s, Bairnsdale’s Olivia Pearson and Moe’s Virginia Daley won equal best and fairest with 31 votes. In the 13s, Moe’s Harper de Dios polled 31 votes to win.
