The Trafalgar High School community recently came together to celebrate 212 students who received awards across a number of categories.
Recognising students' endeavour, leadership and academic excellence, the school's awards night was opened by outgoing 2024 student leadership team member Ambrose Bajada, followed by a reflection on the school year by school council president Holly Perriam.
One of the major awards presented on the night was the Dorothy Hoare OAM Community Service Shield, named after well known Trafalgar volunteer and past member of the school council Dorothy Hoare OAM.
The award was presented by Dorothy to year nine student Baxter Hankinson.
"Baxter, a year nine student and a proud member of our SRC as a community leader, has truly made his mark this year," principal Brett Pedlow said.
"He dedicated his efforts to a community project that breathed new life into a cherished charity event on our school calendar. The event, the World's Greatest Shave, raises vital funds for cancer research.
"Baxter not only formed a team and secured sponsorships, but he also reimagined the event, taking it to new heights."
Mr Pedlow acknowledged that Baxter's leadership skills extended "beyond his year level".
"Typically, we wait until students reach their final year of high school to align their name with that of Dorothy's, a recognised community champion," he said. "However, Baxter's extraordinary leadership, organisational skills and commitment to the World's Greatest Shave have made him more than deserving of this recognition now."
Another special guest on the night was Joe Pedemont of the Victorian Mining and Energy Union who gifted a scholarship towards a student VCE costs.
Codie McDermaid, who had displayed resilience and positive attitude towards his units one and two studies, was the worthy recipient of this award.
The Trafalgar Historical Society presented awards again this year in memory of Max Gibson.
These awards recognised students who had excelled in the study of history in 2024.
Baxter Hankinson received the junior award and the senior award was presented to Kyen Jenkins.
The year 12 dux Poppy Susa was presented an additional prize by the Trafalgar Lions Club.
Poppy was the subject award winner of units three and four chemistry, units three and four English and units three and four general mathematics.
She was also presented with an award awarded in memory of Anthony Wilson, a past teacher of Trafalgar High School.
The night concluded with a musical act by a "XanRaven", a musical act made up of year 11 students and music teachers from the school.
