Thrilling recognition for Landcare group
1 min read

The Springsure Hill Landcare Group was recognised at the Victorian Landcare Awards last week.
The group received a highly commended in the Landcare and Environmental Volunteer Group Award category and was one of only three groups recognised.
Springsure Hill Landcare Group president Gill Oscar said the group were "thrilled" by the award recognition.
"There is amazing work being done to restore the land all across Victoria," she said. "We are thrilled that our group was recognised."
Jindivick resident Peter Ronalds also received an award for outstanding contribution as a Landcare staff member.
"Pete's award was thoroughly deserved," Ms Oscar said. "He is a bit of an icon for many farmers and landcarers around here."
Springsure Hill Landcare Group was established in 1997 to control ragwort and other local weeds around Buln Buln, Shady Creek and Crossover.
Changing demographics and COVID lockdowns put the group at risk for a period of time, with the committee reduced to two members.
Efforts to engage landholders and build community partnerships has seen the group revitalised, with more than 80 members and a Junior Landcare program.
The Springsure Hill Landcare Group's next event will be held at the Yarragon Public Hall on Saturday, August 17.
Titled "managing bush areas on your property", Ms Oscar encouraged the community to support the event, including any new members.
