Next year a major boost for retail offerings in Warragul.

Earthworks have marked the start of redevelopment of the former Warragul saleyards site in Alfred St.

A major building to cater for six tenancies is being developed by Melbourne-based company McMullin Group.
Spokesperson Josh McMullin said a builder had been contracted and construction was targeted for completion by next August.
Mr McMullin said his company was well advanced with negotiations with potential tenants, including several national retailers.
The building proposed is of a "step down" form to account for a five-metre west to east fall of the property to give a visual impression of a series of interconnected buildings.
Individual tenancy spaces will range from 870 square metres to 1547 square metres making for a total floor area for the complex of more than 7700 square metres.
The Alfred St development will add a major boost to Warragul's retail presence with another complex well advanced at the corner of Queen St and Hazel Drive.
The development is a joint venture by the Harvey Norman and Spotlight companies.
Costing an estimated $45 million it will house four major tenants with Harvey Norman, Spotlight and Harris Scarfe confirmed.
A bakery and cafe also will be included.
The Queen St-Hazel Drive development will provide almost 12,300 square metres of floor spaces for the four retail areas plus 250 square metres for the convenience restaurant.
The first sod was turned at the site in April with a "before the middle of next year" target projected for completion.
