Warragul Croquet Club will celebrate its 120th anniversary this Saturday.
The anniversary will be celebrated with an open day from 10am to 3pm on Saturday. The day provides an opportunity for community members to go along and try croquet in a casual, non-competitive environment.
There also will be photo displays capturing the club's history since 1904.
The club's first croquet green was at the back of the original Commercial Hotel, located near the site of the current hotel. Later, a green was developed in Palmerston St where the op shop is now located.
There also was a club in Bowen St known as the Carrington Croquet Club.
In 1914, through negotiations with the then Warragul council, land was set aside in Anderson St, at the north-east corner of the municipal parkland for the croquet club - where it remains today.
The club currently has a membership of 27 men and women.
The club is part of the Gippsland Croquet Association which comes under the umbrella of the Victorian Croquet Association.
Members play every Wednesday and Saturday mornings.
In the past, club members have represented at state level, with current member Julie Beasley flying the flag in a Victorian team.
In the past, the club also has had successful representation at pennant level.
Two tournaments are held every year attracting players for all over Victoria.
The club also has two interclub competition days - one against Drouin for the Twin Towns Shield and the other against Wonthaggi for the twin Ws Shield.
