A photograph of the Trafalgar Post Office c1903.
The post office opened on May 29, 1879 in a timber building on the corner of Main and McCrory streets.
This is the site where the State Bank Building - now a bakery - stands today.
The post office was officially gazetted on June 13, 1879. The first post mistress was Mrs Catherine Kenny.
In 1924, it was replaced by a new brick building beside the current newsagents where it operated for more than 50 years.
After the business was privatised, it was eventually moved to a new building behind the present Community Bank Trafalgar and District, facing the rear carpark.
