Snapshot of the past - flooding in Cloverlea
1 min read

A photograph of traffic halted on Cloverlea Rd after a storm hit the district in May 1974.
Taken about 2.5km from Darnum, water from the Little Moe River covered the road to a depth of about 18cm.
The storm hit the Warragul district at about 3pm on May 15, uprooting trees, causing power blackouts and minor landslides.
Worst hit areas were Hallora, Athlone, Lardner and Korumburra.
Whilst heavy rains and flooding are not an unusual part of life in West Gippsland, The Gazette detailed six trees down across Burnt Store Rd at Lardner, sections of Korumburra Rd blocked, three landslides on Darnum-Allambee Rd and several lucky escapes when large gum trees fell dangerously close to the Darnum Milk Supply building.
As well as flooding captured at Darnum along the Little Moe River, Factory Rd at Yarragon was flooded with more than 90cm over a 90m section, part of the roof at Yarragon Football Club's new pavilion at Dowton Park was blown off, and the Princes Highway was blocked by a fallen tree between Yarragon and Trafalgar.
In addition, the Latrobe River at Rokeby flooded the Drouin Bridge and, at Noojee, rose to the level of the bank after the town recorded 58.6mm of rain in 24 hours. Warragul Post Office recorded 78.5mm for the day.
