Snapshot of the past - Civic Park train
1 min read

A photograph of children sitting on the train in Civic Park, Warragul in 1974.
The train may have altered in colour through time and playground upgrades, but has always been popular across generations and still welcomes children climbing over it today.
On this occasion, the children playing on the train during the school holidays are the Cusden family of Warragul. They are (from left) Phillip, Julie, Susan, Alan, Robyn and Andrew.
In the back of the photograph is the Warragul Shire offices - built in 1965 - but not the West Gippsland Arts Centre. Works on the arts centre didn't start until 1981.
Civic Park saw its first adventure playground installed in 1964 as part of an Apex Club project. Pond excavation works followed in 1969.
The latest playground upgrade was unveiled in 2017.
The outdoor swimming pool was also part of the parkland from 1957 until its closure in 2009.
