A photograph of the large crowd gathered to officially open a new outdoor swimming pool at Drouin High School in December 1961.
The new pool, officially opened by Minister for Education Mr Bloomfield before parents and students, cost £15,000 to build.
Mr Bloomfield spoke appreciatively of the advisory committee and headmaster Mr R. Barnes for their efforts in making the pool possible.
Mr Bloomfield's announcement of his department's wish to donate a diving board was loudly applauded.
Despite cold winds and rain, exhibitions by a team of women swimmers went ahead as scheduled during the opening.
In the mid-1980s, the pool was enclosed and heated, allowing for year-round swimming.
Drouin Secondary College still has a pool on site today.
