Works continue into March

Disruptions to traffic for a Warragul streetscaping project are set to continue into March.

Roadworks began on Queen St in mid-January for the Baw Baw Shire project, which is due to be completed in early March.
The ninth and final stage of the Warragul central business district streetscape project is being delivered in two phases, with the first phase currently underway between Mason St and Peace Ave.
Valued at more than $456,000, it includes renewal of the Queen St/Mason St roundabout; a widened pathway from TAFE to the existing Normanby Plce shared pathway; kerb outstands and refuge islands at the Queen St/Gladstone St intersection; new line-markings, including bike lanes, median and turning lanes; and, new landscaping.
It also will see five elm trees, removed in late 2023, being replaced in autumn or early winter.
In addition, an old toilet block in Queen St Park will be replaced with a new modern facility. It will be located closer to the footpath to provide greater accessibility, visibility and improved safety.
Council is currently in the process of obtaining a building permit for this $252,700 facility which has delayed the toilet block works. It is now expected to be delivered by early July.
The exact timeline for phase two works - offering improvements between Mason St and Smith St - is not yet known.
Council said it was working on a traffic management solution for a pedestrian crossing within this section of Queen St.
The overall Warragul CBD streetscape project, staged from 2016 to 2025, was designed to help the town cope with a growing population and increased traffic.
All nine stages were designed to better manage and redirect traffic within the confines of existing roads and make the CBD experience safer, more inviting and more accessible for pedestrians.
