Wastewater treatment savings

Additional equipment at the Drouin wastewater treatment plant will cut costs by about $50,000 a year.

Gippsland Water said the savings would flow from the introduction of two new biosolids containers that would treamline the transport process.
They will bring to six the number of containers at the plant and allow contractors to keep two emptied bins at the site until the next loads were needed and would help cope with increased waste production as the region grows.
Biosolids are the final product of the wastewater treatment process and are used to create compost at Gippsland Water's processing facility at Dutson Downs.
The water authority said it expected the two additional containers would save about $4000 a month in transport costs and help to maintain downward pressure on customers' bills.
