The Walhalla Goldfield Railway's plans to rebuild the railway track back to Erica continues to capture the attention of Victorian politicians.
Following visits from Member for Eastern Victoria Melina Bath, State Shadow Minister for Tourism Sam Groth and Member for Narracan Wayne Farnham, Shadow Minister for Public Transport Matthew Guy recently took a trip down the historic railway alongside his wife and children.
After an hour return journey over Stringer's Creek Gorge to Thomson River, Mr Guy met with railway president Greg Hansford to discuss the rail extension plans.
Mr Guy said he was encouraged to visit the railway after being briefed by Mr Farnham regarding the extension plans and hearing from Mr Groth about his recent visit with railway volunteers.
Having now visited the Walhalla Goldfield Railway himself and observed what the volunteer crew have achieved, Mr Hansford said Mr Guy indicated he would return in the near future to determine how he could assist with the extension plans.
Ms Bath previously stated the track extension would boost Gippsland's economy after fast track closures of the timber and coal industries.
